After a great deal of interest in the Kingston Borough Tag Rugby Tournament, we organised for two teams to represent St Agatha’s.

Team B had a very tough group. They narrowly lost to Lovelace and Ellingham schools, who both progressed far in the competition. The third game was against OLI. The game was end to end, with both teams playing some impressive rugby. Tries from two members of the team boosted them on to secure a 4-4 draw. The team progressed into the quarter-finals of the plate competition, coming up against Coombe Hill. The team took the lead and kept pushing until the end, but late tries meant our strong opposition came away with the win and progressed. The team did very well and fought hard for each other. They all did themselves and the school proud and should be very pleased with their performances and attitude.

Team A got off to a difficult start, losing 1-0 to Latchmere in a very close first match. They regrouped and played Fern Hill, winning 5-1. Their last group game was against Coombe Hill. St Agatha's went 3-0 up, but Coombe Hill made a comeback and scored two tries. St Agatha's scored again and held on to win 4-2, meaning they qualified for the cup knockout stage. 

In the quarter-finals, they played Castle Hill. Both teams played well but St Agatha's came out on top with a 3-0 win.

This led to the semi-finals where St Agatha’s played Ellingham. This was the most nail-biting match yet. St Agatha's went down 0-1 before levelling and even going ahead 2-1. Ellingham came back and lead 3-2 with one minute left. St Agatha's did not give up and a try was scored on the last play of the game to make it level and force extra time - it was a golden try. Ellingham were relentless, throwing everything at our team. St Agatha's kept their heads and won the ball. Once on the attack, they scored a winning try, sending them into the final. 

The Final: Their final match was against a very tough Lovelace team. Lovelace took the lead early on. St Agatha's dug deep and came back to lead 2-1 before the half-time break. Lovelace came out strong in the 2^nd half but St Agatha's dealt with their attacks very well. Then, with 2 minutes to go, St Agatha’s scored another try and after holding off more Lovelace attacks, the full-time whistle blew. St Agatha's had done it: they became borough cup champions. This means they have qualified for the London Youth Games in June. They gave it everything and proved why you should never give up.
