Religious Education
Laudato Si' and Fratelli tutti
At St Agatha's, we are deeply inspired by the profound messages encapsulated in Pope Francis' encyclicals, Laudato Si' and Fratelli Tutti. These powerful documents call upon us to reflect on our relationship with the environment, one another, and God, urging us to foster a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world.
In the spirit of Laudato Si', we recognise the urgent need to care for our common home. Through education, advocacy, and action, we instill in our pupils a deep reverence for creation and a sense of responsibility to be stewards of the environment. From integrating environmental studies into our curriculum to implementing sustainable practices within our school community, we strive to cultivate a culture of ecological awareness and action.
Similarly, Fratelli Tutti challenges us to embrace a culture of encounter, solidarity, and fraternity. At St Agatha's, we embrace the richness of diversity and promote inclusivity, respect, and understanding among all members of our community. Through projects, interfaith dialogue, and social justice initiatives, we actively engage our children in building bridges of solidarity and compassion, echoing the Pope's call for a more fraternal society.
As a Catholic school community, we are committed to living out the teachings of Laudato Si' and Fratelli Tutti in our daily lives. Through prayer, reflection, and collaboration, we strive to embody the values of integral ecology, social justice, and solidarity, inspired by the vision of Pope Francis.
Curriculum
Across all year groups in our school we follow a scheme entitled ‘The Way, the Truth and the Life’.
EYFS The teaching of RE in the Early Years Foundation Stage is a legal requirement. Children at St Agatha’s encounter religions and world views through exploring special people, books, times, places, and objects. They listen to and talk about religious stories and are introduced to new vocabulary including subject-specific words, and use all their senses to explore beliefs, practices, and forms of expression. Children are encouraged, and supported, to ask questions and reflect on their own feelings and experiences. They also use their imagination and curiosity to develop their appreciation of and wonder at the natural world in which they live. Opportunities to learn RE are planned through purposeful play and a mix of adult-guided and child-initiated activity through the 7 areas of learning. |
Key Stage 1 Through all school activities we aim to deepen children’s faith and help them grow in the love of God. We provide a curriculum which enables them to be innately spiritual and understand the place that God has in their lives. |
Lower Key Stage 2 Children learn about our faith but also learn from our faith and how it relates to them and their lives. |
Upper Key Stage 2 Children listen, discuss, reflect and take part in a range of creative activities such as: role play, singing and art. Through our lessons, we try to enable children to understand scripture and worship. KEY SKILLS: Analyse, deduce, classify, clarify & interpret.
